Prom night approaching

Most of you, I think, are second year (sophomore) students, which means that you're all getting ready for the big ball on Friday. That's great, although I am a bit peeved about our losing a lesson. I'll get over it, though. There is no real term for this particular kind of party in English, but most American and British people will understand the term 'prom', which is a big thing especially in the States. Here's a Wikipedia article on proms in case you're interested:

Now, as regards all the gentlemen out there, I feel your pain. I'm not too worried about the ladies. You have your appointments with the hairdresser, your gowns are all set and you are, all in all, well taken care of. Guys are less fortunate. I remember when I had to dress up for my prom back in the day. I had no idea how to even tie a bow tie knot (I was wearing a tuxedo or, as it's generally called in British English, a black tie). What do guys wear these days to the prom? A black suit? A dress coat? Anyway, here's a link to Tie-a-Tie.net, which, I'm sure, will satisfy all your tying needs:

Good luck, guys. I hope everything works out. Remember to keep a cool head and try not to look at your feet all the time.

Rules for posting comments

Hey,

Okay, a couple of things. This is the first time I'm using a blog on a course, so if at any point you feel like I don't know what I'm doing, that's because I don't. If you feel like complaining, by all means do so.

During our course, I will be posting material here in varying intervals. Sometimes this is done just for fun. Other times it might be an actual assignment. This will be clearly indicated, and I will also mention it during lectures. You can comment on anything that you see in any way that you see fit, as long as you keep it in English. Try to keep your comments constructive. No swearing, no sexist remarks and treat your fellow bloggers nicely. I don't care about spelling too much, but if you want to get something out of this you might as well try and write "proper" English. This means that if you write something like

ey wats ^? w@ av u bn doiN l8ly? oy wnt2go av a pint W me n my m8s l8r? ey dats QL. DdU C d nu Tarantino moV? It's suposD 2B gud. C u. :D

I will have no idea what you're trying to say.

Other than that, enjoy!

Testing

This is a test. Seems to be working. Cool.
